Wroten responds to McDonald’s All-American snub

Words.

Tony Wroten

Of the handful of players feeling justifiably slighted by the McDonald’s All-American Game selections, Garfield (Seattle, WA) point guard Tony Wroten has arguably the best reason to opt for Whoppers over Big Macs from now on.

Wroten bounced back from a torn ACL that cost him his entire junior season to average 18 points, 10
assists and seven rebounds with Seattle Rotary AAU last summer. And in his senior season, Wroten is averaging 26 points, six assists and eight rebounds for Garfield, ranked No. 1 in the state Class 4A by the Seattle Times. Wroten is slotted 16th in the HSH National Top 50 player rankings.

We caught up with Wroten yesterday and got his take on how he felt about the snub:

*** *** ***

High School Hoop: Pretty sure I know the answer to this but I’ll ask anyway. Were you expecting to make it?
Tony Wroten: Yes I was, because I felt like I’ve proven I’m one of the top guys and deserved to be in the game.

HSH: I agree. So did you do a double-take like me when you saw that you didn’t make it?
TW: Well, actually I was at school when the list came out. So my phone was just blowing up with a whole bunch of text messages saying “You got robbed” and “I can’t believe you didn’t make it.” So then I got on Twitter and saw everybody posting the names of the (All-Americans). I didn’t see mine. I was like “Wow, are you serious?”

HSH: Did you immediately look at the list and remember outplaying a lot of the guys on it?
TW: (Laughs) It’s funny that you say that, because there’s some names on there that I KILLED this summer!

HSH: That’s got to be frustrating.
TW: Just makes me more motivated. I’m not even mad because I’m gonna stay in the gym. My future is too bright just to dwell on this. It’s nothing. I’m gonna outshine most of the dudes that got picked anyway!

HSH: Why do you think they overlooked you?
TW: (Laughs) I’m still asking myself that right now.

HSH: You believe that it’s all political?
TW: Yeah. Probably that East Coast bias.

HSH: If you get picked for the Jordan Brand Classic, is that a higher honor?
TW: Yeah it is. Plus Jordan’s shoes are better than Reeboks!

HSH: No argument there. So is it safe to assume you’re gonna give the Big Macs a rest for a while?
TW: (Laughs) Nah, I love McDonald’s too much to stay away from it!

Yo, Tone call 911- you were just jacked homie!lol

TW is in the Jordan Classic.

Plus the Mickey D’s snub just added more fuel to his already motivated inner fire- burn, baby, burn!

Barring injuries TW will go as far as his talents on & off the court take him. Can’t wait to see him at State then the UW. G-D bless.

  2. My Opinion says:

It takes an All American to Be All American, and Tony Wroten is definetly not….Yeah your fancy on the floor but it’s always more in depth to be and athlete than just be a player.

  3. Ty says:

He got snubbed from the Jordan game too?!
