While navigating through the hectic recruiting process, HighSchoolHoop’s top-rated player, Ames High (IA) swingman Harrison Barnes, agreed to chronicle his thoughts for us during each of his five official visits. First was North Carolina, followed by Oklahoma, Kansas and Duke. Now Barnes reflects on his last official visit to UCLA last weekend…

First, I would like to say that the UCLA trip was outstanding! When I visited there unofficially this summer, I got a chance to tour the athletic facilities, meet with academic advisors and attend a class, so we didn’t focus on that for this trip. MORE >

I got there Friday morning. My family and I drove and when we got to campus we met up with Coach (Danny) Manning, who took us over to meet the Dean of the school. She was a little new to the university, but she gave a great presentation. She gave us a good feel for the campus. After that, we took a little tour and saw where I would eat and some hangouts and things like that. Then we went over to Allen Fieldhouse. MORE >

I thought that, overall, the visit went extremely well. When we first got there it was really late because our flights got delayed. My family and I, Doron Lamb and Coach (Jeff) Capel and his staff all flew in to Oklahoma City. We got in at about midnight and we didn’t get situated and get to sleep in Norman, Okla., until about 2 a.m. MORE >

Harrison Barnes clears up Duke/UNC rumors

Ames High (Iowa) star Harrison Barnes sent us this press release — before any other media outlet — to clear up any discrepancies from last week’s perceived swoop-in by North Carolina coach Roy Williams:

Earlier this week, BusterSports.com (Raleigh, N.C.) reported about my in-home visits. My family and I felt that hosting prospective schools in our home was personal and private; therefore our in-home visit schedule was not available to the public.

Well, we had to be flexible. Iowa State had a contact on the night of UNC’s visit; Oklahoma conducted their in-home visit the same day as UCLA’s contact.

Although Buster’s Dave Odom acknowledges that most of what he reported was unsubstantiated, he went on to state what he knew was “true” in his report. Odom stated, “Mike Krzyzewski, during the recruitment of Harrison Barnes, had asked he and his family, and the high school coach let me have the last home visit.” MORE >

I arrived at the Carolina Inn at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 3. Outside was Coach (Roy) Williams waiting for me and my family to take us to our rooms. The rooms were really nice.

Well, the first night I had to stay with my family because I think that’s just the policy, but the next night I got my own room. I got a queen bed to myself. I enjoyed that. MORE >
