Austin Rivers, Anthony Davis and Michael Gilchrist have received the most attention amongst the Class of 2011 high school prospects, but you’d be crazy to overlook Myck Kabongo. The 6-2 point guard headed to Texas has a handle that can break down just about any defender, an innate ability to hit the open man and a lethal jumper with deep range that will cause issues for Big 12 opponents next year. We got up with the Toronto product this past weekend at the Jordan Brand Classic in Charlotte to discuss his off-court interests, his high school career – that included stops at two of the country’s premier programs – and his goals for next year. HAMPTON, Va. — It had been rumored for months, and he had even mentioned it in his diary on High School Hoop, but Austin Rivers made it official last week, retracting his commitment from Florida to reopen his recruitment.
Rivers, the 2nd-ranked player in the country and Class of 2011 combo guard at Winter Park (Fla.) High Scool, played with the E1T1 Elite AAU team last weekend at the Boo Williams Invitational, and I was there Friday to see him lead his squad past Team Final (Trevor Cooney, Rakeem Christmas and Michael Gilchrist) in front of a capacity crowd. After the game, Rivers met with reporters to discuss his decision, what schools he’ll be looking at, and the players he keeps in contact with: MORE >

Trevor Cooney knows the Andy Rautins comparisons are inevitable. They’re about the same size, have in the gym range and are highly valued by Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim. But the Wilmington, Del., native isn’t settling for a pre-determined fate. While he admits the Rautins comparisons are flattering, the high school junior has his own goals. We caught up with him this weekend at the Boo Williams Invitational following a tough loss to E1T1 Elite (featuring Austin Rivers) to discuss his AAU team, his Syracuse future and some of his other interests. Erasto Hatchett is the coach of Word of God Christian Academy (a.k.a. John Wall’s alma mater) in Raleigh, N.C. After coaching at Cannon School in Concord, N.C., the past few years, he was named the head coach of Word of God in August, and has led his team comprised of several D-1 prospects to a 12-4 record through Monday. Hatchett, who played at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, is also the brother-in-law of prized N.C. State basketball commit Ryan Harrow. I sat down with Hatchett following a win last week and asked him about his kids, his visions and his life as the head coach of an aspiring national power. MORE >
