The John Wall Saga Continues

Words.

By now we all know about WRAL.com’s report, that John Wall, the nation’s top senior point guard from Word of God Academy in Raleigh, N.C., was cited with misdemeanor breaking and entering in connection with an April 27 break-in at a home in Raleigh.

According to the report, police said there was no forced entry and nothing to indicate that something was taken.

Here’s where it all allegedly went down.

OK, first, what could be taken from a vacant foreclosed home? And if nothing was taken or broken shouldn’t the charge be trespassing?

Not to excuse Wall, but c’mon … three kids (a male and a female were also charged) walk into a vacant house and get caught. I don’t think we’ll be seeing this one on “America’s Most Wanted.”

My guess is this gets thrown out.

A few months ago I spent almost a week with Wall working on a story and got to know him pretty well. The coolest thing about him is that he doesn’t take himself too seriously at all.

Here he’s got studs like Coach K, Billy Donovan and John Calipari drooling over him, camera crews following him around, autograph seekers at every turn and the thing we talked about the most was our shared fear of scary movies.

Well, that and how he lost to me in H-O-R-S-E. (Shameless plug)

Bottom line is that he’s a good kid who has had to grow up fast, from his father’s passing due to complications with cancer when Wall was just eight, to recently having to deal with his mother suffering a stroke.

Wall and I communicated today via text and though he couldn’t go into great detail about the charge, he’s still fairly upbeat, given the scrutiny.

Let it all play out and let more details emerge …
