Our daily look at some of the news around high school basketball…

Lance a Pirate?
Total craziness out of Lance Stephenson‘s camp: His pops, Lance Sr., came away from their visit to Seton Hall over the weekend so impressed with head coach Bobby Gonzalez that Sr. said the Hall is “definitely a place Lance is considering.”

Thomas loves KU
Kansas is a likely frontrunner in the recruitment of 6-7, 225-pound PF Quintrell Thomas (St. Patrick’s HS, Elizabeth, N.J.). Thomas told Gary Bedore of the KUSports.com that he “loved” the school during this past weekend’s official visit. Thomas kept up with the Jayhawk squad during a pickup run.

IU recruit arrested
Kelvin Sampson and IU were dealt a blow over the weekend with arrest of recruit Bud Mackey. Mackey, a 6-4 senior guard from Kentucky, was arrested Friday on charges of selling cocaine, and doing so within 1,000 yards of a school.

Mizzou gets wing help
This weekend, Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) wing Kim English chose Missouri over Tennesee, Cincinnati, URI and St. Bonaventure. English teams up with PG recruit Miguel Paul for a killer ’08 backcourt.

  1. AK says:

That combo of Kimmie English and Miggy Paul will not only feature two sweet names, but also will surprise some people in the Big 12. Everyone likes to say that KState is the hot sleeper this season, but English is a spot up, knock down shooter who will be complemented VERY WELL by Paul’s pass-first mentality. Lethal!

  2. Austin says:

No way Lance goes to Seton Hall, unless he wants to do like OJ and rebuild a program by himself. But even then, USC was in better shape pre-OJ than Seton Hall would be pre-Lance.

  3. Wikipedia says:

I don’t know though, Bobby Gonzalez has been bringing in some ball players. The cupboard isn’t exactly bare, by the time Lance is ready to select a college he could be the final piece that they need to make a real run into the NCAA’s. They already have NuNu Harvey, Larry Davis, John Garcia, Mike Glover and they are getting Jordan Theodore.

  4. AK says:

Let’s be real! Who is NuNu Harvey?! Realistically Austin is right. If Gonzalez pulls “Born Ready” to the ‘Hall it would make the Shaheen Holloway years totally forgettable. This is Lance Stephenson, the same kid who gave Jamal Crawford buckets. If Gonzalez pulls Lance, he is everyone’s instant frontrunner for Coach of the Year.

  5. Wikipedia says:

NuNu is Eugene Harvey? Have you ever seen him play? The kid is a play maker, passes the ball very well and can run a team. If Lance played with a guard like him he would drop CRAZY buckets because he would get the ball at the right spot every time.

  6. Jaquam Bodden says:

that would be good if he goes to seton hall but it will be even better if he chooses UNC if that’s still on his list

  7. Terrell says:

Seton Hall seems unlikely but Lance would bring some excitement to a conference that hasn’t had any in a while.

  8. Coldchain says:

If Lance stays in the NY area, he’ll go to UConn or Syracuse before Seton Hall. Personally I can see him in a Louisville or Memphis uni.

  9. AK says:

Wikipedia, I see what you’re saying that they’d make a dynamic duo, but let’s be honest. You and Lance would tear people up. Let’s consider the options: Lance goes to the ‘Hall and plays alongside NuNu and gives St. John’s buckets, or Lance goes to UNC and plays alongside Wayne Ellington and gives the Dukies buckets… I’ve never seen NuNu play and thus shouldn’t be getting on his game… However, the prospect for once-in-10-years kind of player going to play with Ellington, Ty Lawson, Hansbrough, Deon Thompson, Alex Stephenson, Quinton Thomas…

  10. Wikipedia says:

I understand what you’re saying but none of those players you just named for UNC will still be there when Lance is choosing a college. I agree with Coldchain though, I think he might mess around and go to UConn or Cuse’ and I will jump in front of a bus if he does because I am an SJU fan.

  11. NYBaller says:

Syracuse is the perfect fit for Lance. He’ll get to take alot of shots, eventhough he plays D he won’t get exposed via the 2-3 zone and half of his games will be on t.v.

Jimmy B doesn’t get enough credit in regards to all the pros he pumps out. Lance is one and done anyway. Mine as well follow after Melo’ and Dontae Green.

  12. Roscoe P. says:

Yeaaa, I agree with Wikipedia, I hate Syracuse. Devendorf is mad shaky from beyond the arc and they’re lacking this year without Nichols. Boo the Orange. I heard sumin bout Lance headin’ to IU. Too bad that Bud Mackey got arrested, I heard that kid can play.
