A quick look at what’s going on in the world of high school basketball…

- The saga of 6-10 PF/C DeMarcus Cousins has a new chapter. He was dismissed from Erwin H.S. (Birmingham, AL) after two years and transferred to Clay-Chalkville where he, Christian Watford and Josh Pritchett were declared ineligible by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Now, Cousins has made a new home at LeFlore High School (Mobile, AL). We presume this transfer will be clean and Cousins will be allowed to team up with Marquette-bound 6-5 SG Nick Williams on one of the best teams in the state.

- The Buckeyes are steamrolling through the class of 2010, picking up a fourth commitment this weekend. 6-4 G Cameron Wright (Benedictine; Cleveland, OH) averaged 15 points, 6.5 boards and 5.7 assists as a freshman and has a passion for the game.

- Thought that it was big news when the ’Hoos locked up New York product, 6-6 Sylven Landesberg (Holy Cross; Queens, NY) despite serious pressure from St. John’s? Well Virginia followed it up by nabbing another metro New York area kid from under UConn’s nose. 7-0 C Assane Sene (South Kent School; South Kent, CT) chose UVA over the Huskies, Syracuse and UCLA – traditional programs that have a history of luring talented kids from the greater New York area. Sene hails from Senegal where he learned to play ball. He came to the U.S. last year.

- 6-8 F Quintrell Thomas (St. Patrick’s; Elizabeth, NJ) is officially off the board, opting for Kansas over UNLV and Rutgers. Patty’s coach Kevin Boyle told Adam Zagoria (ZagsBlog) that Thomas was motivated by the opportunity to challenge for a spot. “I think he wants a challenge of going to one of the three biggest schools in the history of college basketball,? said Boyle. “A lot of frontcourt players are leaving, so he has the chance to play as a freshman.? The validity of that statement depends largely on whether Marcus and Markieff Morris decide to go to KU or Villanova.

How is UVA getting this big-name ballers? It seems like it’s changing up in the ACC… less kids want to take their games to Duke/UNC, and opt for Big East schools or other places that haven’t been national powerhouses in recent years

i think its only this year, think of the 06 UNC Class (Lawson, Ellington, Wright, Stephenson, Thompson, Graves) or Duke 05 (Paulus, McRoberts, Boateng, Boykin, Pocius). I think both teams will get big recruiting classes again the next few years. UNC doesn’t need big recruiting classes right now because of it’s stacked roster. Duke however isnt very deep. But you can expect Coach K to get the players he needs.
