He’s the most exciting player in high school hoops today. And now, he’s also the top single-season scorer in the history of Oak Hill (Mouth of Wilson, Va.). Josh Smith held that mark with 980 points during the ’03-04 campaign, but Brandon Jennings blew the lid off of J-Smoove’s record with 1,133!

“Young Money” added to his tally on Tuesday night when he hung 63 points against Bonner Academy (Raleigh, N.C.), outscoring the entire Bonner squad by himself. The Warriors won 123-58 as Jennings shot 25-40 from the field, including 13-21 from beyond the arc.

“He was in his groove,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said. “He made pull-ups, threes and got to the basket. He was doing whatever he wanted to do. He could have scored 75 if I left him out there.”

Jennings upped his average to 35.4 points per game, which will most likely hold up as the highest single season total ever, besting Orlando Vega‘s 30.6 during the ’87-88 season. His 63-point outpouring also tops the Oak Hill record books. Calvin Duncan held the record with 61 points during the ’80-81 season in a game against Tri-Cities Christian, Tenn.

No wonder he’s been called the best point guard to ever suit up for the Warriors – even if that list includes Rod Strickland, Ty Lawson, and Rajon Rondo. Jennings wants to think that he’s the best player to ever come through the storied program, but it’s better not to mess with ‘Melo. He might as well just stick to the best point guard to play for the Warriors.

“He’s right there with all of them,” Smith said. “I really think a lot of Ty Lawson and Rajon Rondo. Rod Strickland played in the ‘league’ 17 years. It’s hard to say somebody’s better than him. For us, the two years he’s been here he’s been as good as anybody. Maybe better.”

This kid is good. But lets not get it twisted he shoots the ball every time he gets it. 40 shots for a point guard is unheard of. And about Jay’s comment about Kenny Anderson. Kenny A was way better than Jennings as a high school player. Kenny got everybody involved. And lets not forget Kenny A. Led Georgia Tech to the final 4 as a freshman. Brandon Jennings did not look good in the 2 Prime time games on ESPN this year. Tamir Jackson of St. Benedict’s lit him up for 29 points. And St. Patricks had him on lock.
