SNY Invitational – Trinity Fields

Words.

Before Lance Stephenson took center stage and took home tournament-MVP honors, all eyes were on Trinity Fields, the Iona-commit who smoothly scored 21 points as Cardozo downed Frederick Douglass Academy 59-45. Fields took over during the third quarter, scoring 12 of his 21 as the Judges cruised to a 19-7 advantage during that period. Fields fed off of the increasingly intense atmosphere – Fat Joe tracks pumping during timeouts as he sat courtside – and drained two key three’s over a slow-shifting defense.

Fields looked just as comfortable in the lane as he did on the perimeter. He snuck into the paint on jump-stops that drew biggies and allowed Fields to dump the ball to Edy Toussaint. But he didn’t dish the ball every time he drew a piece of the lane. During the third quarter, he added a conventional three-point play, when fouled on a jumpshot which only drew the bottom of the net. He added the free throw thereafter.

What was the key to that third quarter explosion? “My team believed in me,” said Fields after the game.

Fields’ night was typified as he extended the Judges lead beyond fifteen points when he got two defenders off-balance with a headfake, opening the lane up for an easy driving lay-up.

But it was his perimeter defending that allowed the Judges to get out on the break and limit 6-6 Lions F Jayquan Anderson to two points in the second half. Both Fields and Dennis Oglesby pressed the Lions’ who couldn’t hang take care of the ball as the pressure mounted.

Now that the meat of the PSAL schedule is around the corner, Fields is hitting his stride at the perfect time. As long as he continues to display the entirety of his arsenal, the Judges might continue to improve on their already-impressive 12-2 record in 2008.

Trinity fields is one of the most underrated Point Guards in NYC with all the eyes on Kemba Walker and Darryl Truck Bryant I saw him play before for abyssinian he’s Tough I thought it would be good if he went to St. Johns but With him coming to Iona , that’s a good look 4 them because they will be a problem and probably make it back 2 the NCAA Tournament tihtink that Fields is the best guard Iona has gotten Since Steve Burtt Jr.

    Another Gain 4the Mid Majors
