There is a possibility that one of the nations most storied high school basketball programs may not field a team for the 2008-09 season. Mt. Vernon HS, located just above the Bronx, NY in Westchester County, school budget was voted down by the town’s residents. The school has produced basketball stars like Gus and Ray Williams, Rodney McCray, current Chicago Bulls guard Ben Gordon, as well as countless division one players. The high school needs $300,000 to be able to fund winter season sports, the season in which basketball is played, and another $300,000 to for spring sports. To date Mount Vernon natives, actor Denzel Washington and musician/actor Sean “P Diddy” Combs have donated money to the cause.
