Cause for Concern at Southern Cal?

Words.

First, USC lost their most highly touted prospect since O.J. Mayo when Renardo Sidney de-committed for Mississippi State out of the blue. And now, the Trojans’ next-best commit, Noel Johnson has re-opened his recruitment. With LaMont “Mo Mo” Jones and Derrick Williams as the only two ranked prospects remaining on USC’s radar, should Trojans fans be worried?

Johnson is a supremely smooth 6-6 wing who would have given USC an outside shooting presence that they haven’t had in a while. Without him available to hold down the three, Southern Cal might find themselves in a bind. They won’t have last year’s prize DeMar DeRozan, and PF Taj Gibson looks to remain in the NBA Draft as well.

If Daniel Hackett returns to school, the Trojans could slot 6-5 G Dwight Lewis to the three and play Mo Mo and Hackett alongside each other in the backcourt.

Now that Johnson’s recruitment is open, he could take a long look at some of the other schools who offered him: Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Miami, even Harvard.
