N.C. State Star Recruit Forced to Go Prep Route

Lorenzo Brown on the day he officially committed to NC State
Before heading off to France to run the point for the 2K Sports All-American team, Walton High (Ga.) point guard Ryan Harrow, a rising senior, told us that the plan at North Carolina State was for Roswell Centennial High (Ga.) combo guard Lorenzo Brown, who stands 6-4, to run the point this season until Harrow got there the following year to move Brown over to shooting guard.
“I’ve known Lorenzo forever,” Harrow told us in June. “He’ll get a lot of experience next year.”
For now, that experience will happen in Chatham, Va., rather than Raleigh, N.C. Sources close to Brown confirmed to HighSchoolHoop that he failed to qualify academically, and as a result will have to go the prep route, likely to Hargrave Military Academy.
Text messages to Hargrave coach Kevin Keatts were not immediately returned.
Harrow chose the “glass half full” approach. “It will be good for us coming in at the same time,” Harrow said via text Tuesday night. “The class of 2010 is looking good now.”
Brown was the gem of N.C. State’s 2009 recruiting class, which included shooting guard Scott Wood, power forwards DeShawn Painter and Richard Howell, and center Jordan Vandenburg.
Without Brown, point guard duties will likely be split between Javi Gonzalez, Farnold Degand and Julius Mays again this season.
Brown averaged 27 points, eight rebounds and seven assists last season for Roswell Centennial and was named the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Player of the Year.
