Phil Pressey Chooses Missouri Over Arizona, Baylor, LSU and UCLA
Words. Aron Phillips

When we featured Phil Pressey in Dime #49, we knew that the 5-10 point guard from the Episcopal School of Dallas stood out from his peers. When we saw him hold his own against some of the best players in the country at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 a few weeks ago at Gauchos Gym in NYC, we knew that he’d have a choice from some of the top programs in the country. So it may come as a surprise to you that after receiving scholarship offers from Arizona, Baylor, LSU and UCLA, Pressey committed to Missouri.
The highest-profile recruit of Mike Anderson‘s tenure as Missouri’s head coach, Anderson had been targeting Pressey for years and has known him for much longer. You could even say he had an unfair advantage: Anderson was a college teammate and roommate of former NBA player and current New Orleans Hornets assistant coach Paul Pressey (Phil’s father) at Tulsa.
Pressey is Missouri’s second verbal commitment for 2010, joining Rock Bridge senior guard Ricky Kreklow, who pledged in July.

And Mizzou is darned glad to get him. Can you picture Pressey spearheading Mizzou’s 40 minutes of hell, because I can. It’s full court pressure for 40 minutes and fastbreak basketball. Could you pick a better name for a player in this system?
A single guy like that makes everyone else around him better. I was kind of offended by your can you believe he chose MIZZOU stance. Umm, they did go to the elite 8, and finished the season Ranked #9, falling to UConn in one of the best games of the tournament.
Mizzou’s big men are fast and athletic in this system with the C/PF pressuring the ball. Pressey is gonna have a big man trailing for the dunk almost all the time, and will be eating up the D in transition.
And oh yeah. He gets to beat Kansas a minimum of twice a year. He’ll be he one getting all the credit for outplaying their 5* overhyped guys on ESPN BIG MONDAY.
