Rivers takes City of Palms MVP despite loss
Words. Jason Jordan

A few weeks ago Winter Park (Fla.) point guard Austin Rivers told us that he wanted to focus less on where’s he’s going to college (between Florida, who he’s committed to, and Duke, who he’s allowing to recruit him anyway) and more on winning and improving.
After dropping 45 points to get his team to the City of Palms Classic title game, Rivers and the Wildcats fell to Paterson Catholic (N.J.), 62-54, on Dec. 23 in the holiday tournament in Fort Myers, Fla.
Rivers, the fifth-rated prospect in the HSH Top 50, managed 27 points in the loss, but Paterson rallied from a 10-point deficit behind 17 points from Fuquan Edwin, a Seton Hall signee.
Rivers averaged 30.5 points for the tournament and was subsequently named MVP for the second consecutive year.
