It’s been a week now since highly-touted prospect LaQuinton Ross left Murrah High (Jackson, Miss.), his hometown school, to play at Life Center Academy (N.J.) alongside Dion Waiters, a Syracuse signee.
How has the move been working out? In two games, both wins, Ross, a junior small forward and the 19th-rated player in the HSH national top 50, is averaging 22 points and 13 rebounds. Waiters, ranked No. 21, is averaging 21 points and 10 assists.
“It’s been great for both guys,” said Life Center coach Wilson Arroyo. “Any time you have two guys on the same level skill-wise it helps both players’ development.”
Wilson went on to say that a major reason for Ross’ transfer was so he could also develop academically.
“They want him to have a better chance to qualify with the (NCAA) clearinghouse,” said Arroyo. “We’re going to make sure he’s taken care of with that.”
Arroyo said that Ross doesn’t have any visits planned right now, but is still considering a long list of schools that includes Baylor, Kentucky, Memphis, Mississippi State, Syracuse and Florida.

Ross has serious game. Against a higher level of comp here in NJ I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumped to Top 10 – Top 5 status again over the next year.
Too bad he didn’t transfer earlier. Would have loved to see him and Waiters match-up with Kyrie and Michael at St. Pats.
