2011 star Gbinije picks Duke

Words.

Duke

Benedictine (Richmond, Va.) swingman Michael Gbinije stood courtside at Cameron Indoor Stadium alongside Duke signees Kyrie Irving and Joshua Hairston watching Duke warm up before its big game against North Carolina to finish the regular season. It didn’t take long for the Cameron Crazies to zero in on Gbinije.

“Miiiiiiiike!” one fan yelled as Gbinije turned around and raised his eyebrows. “Can you PLEASE come to Duke?”

“We’ll have to see,” replied Gbinije with a big smile. “I’m not sure what I’m gonna do yet.”

“OK, we really want you here, though. We’re doing all we can to convince you to come here!”

“I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks!”

Five days later, Gbinije called Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and gave him his first commitment from the junior class, picking Duke over heavy interest and offers from Syracuse, North Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest, Villanova, Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland and Virginia Tech.

Gbinije averaged 18 points and six rebounds a game this past season for Benedictine.

delayed reaction.. but I look forward to seeing Michael Gbinije’s game and growth as a young Man, an Athlete, and a Basketball player as a Duke Blue Devil.

This guy could be something real special as he’s already displayed talent, skill, and discipline. Time will tell what kind of team player he will be and what kind of leader he may become…
