Knight adds national P.O.Y., loses Florida
Words. Jason Jordan

Earlier this week, Pine Crest (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) point guard Brandon Knight became just the fourth player to win back-to-back Gatorade National Player of the Year awards. Knight, who is ranked No. 2 in the HSH national top 50, joins LeBron James, Greg Oden and Candace Parker in the elite club.
But that’s just half of the big news concerning Knight recently.
We also confirmed through a reliable source that Florida removed itself from contention in the recruiting battle for the 6-3 Knight, who averaged 31.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists this season. The Gators were long believed to be one of Knight’s two favorites, with Kentucky as the other.
Now it looks like Kansas, Connecticut and Syracuse will contend with the ‘Cats for Knight, who will announce his decision next month. We’ve maintained throughout that Knight will end up in Lexington playing for John Calipari, a claim that multiple sources are backing up and one that Florida apparently agrees with.
