Tar Heels jump in late for Teague

If it were up to Pike H.S. (Indianapolis) point guard Marquis Teague, he would’ve picked Louisville a year ago. But his dad, Shawn, wanted the junior point guard to hold off and see what other schools had to offer.
“It was the right decision to wait, I believe,” said Teague, who is ranked 9th in the HSH National Top 50. “Now I’ve looked at everything and I’m about ready to decide.”
Teague said that his list includes Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana and Purdue.
North Carolina jumped in with Teague “over a month ago,” but with no actual offer on the table, the interest won’t change Teague’s list or his timeline.
“I’m still going to make a decision after my season,” he said. “Probably this month. I only list the schools that have offered me. Those are the schools that I’m really looking at.”
Teague admitted this much, that “North Carolina is a school you have to consider” if they come calling.
Therein lies the problem.
“I don’t know what they’re doing,” said Teague, younger brother of Atlanta Hawks PG Jeff Teague, and who’s averaging 19 points, six assists and five rebounds for Pike this season.
“I guess they’re seeing what they have coming in as far as who’s staying and leaving. They said they have two guys from my class (SG P.J. Hairston and F James McAdoo) already coming in. Then they’ve got (point guard) Kendall Marshall coming in next year. I honestly don’t know what’s going on, but I’m not changing anything as far as my plans. If they offer I’d seriously consider them, but I’m just focusing on the schools on my list right now.”

Very interesting. Maybe there’s some truth to the Larry Drew II transfer rumor. This kid isn’t going to UNC though.

It’s done. He won’t be leaving the state.
I would not be surprised if UNC offers and he accepts. They’re loaded now but Teague can possibly make the Heels a 2011-2012 season favorite. All those doubters best remember Jeff went to Wake…ACC
