McAdoo denies UNC rumors

Words.

James McAdoo

When news broke Thursday that North Carolina forwards David Wear and Travis Wear were indeed transferring, message boards across the country ran rampant with speculation and rumors. Everyone wanted to know how Roy Williams and the Tar Heels could cope with just two true post players on the roster next season. Who would they try and snag at the last minute from the 2010 class? Would they scour the JUCO ranks?

One thing is certain: Rumors that Norfolk Christian (Va.) junior James McAdoo — a 6-9 power forward committed to UNC for the 2011 class — would be foregoing his senior year to enroll in Chapel Hill a year early are just that; rumors.

“I talked to Coach Roy,” said McAdoo, who is ranked No. 13 in the HSH national top 50. “I’m not going to be coming early. I’m 100 percent sure about that.”

But could he?

“Yes, I could,” said McAdoo. “I’d have to take three summer courses. But I won’t.”

McAdoo’s reasoning is simple: He wants to be a McDonald’s All-American, he wants to go to the prom … he wants to be a senior in high school.

“Plus, I’ve got USA ball this summer. It’s just not for me,” said McAdoo, who was named the 2009 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year after leading the U.S. to a gold medal in Argentina last summer.

The other popular rumor was that the Tar Heels would pursue Rice High (N.Y.) power forward Kadeem Jack, who recently announced he would attend South Kent Prep School (Conn.) for a fifth year instead of going to college at Arizona, Connecticut, Miami or Arkansas. We’ve learned that Jack would be interested if the Tar Heels came calling. But will they?

“They might,” said McAdoo. “I don’t think they will, though.”

LOL, if you had any sense you’d run away from crapel hill, they are a losing program (anybody say NIT??). Dude, you need to really reconsider your choice, a tarhole is a tarhole and that is a LOSER!!!!

    2010 national CHAMPS: DUKE

What a typically dumb and arrogant post by a dookie.

Dook went to 1 Final Four from 2002-2009 despite being a #1 seed 4 times and a #2 seed twice…lost to VCU just 3 years ago in the first round.

In the meantime, UNC won 2 national championships in 5 years and went to 4 Final Fours….and THAT’s a losing program.

Get your head out of your butt.

  3. dookrains says:

Coach K is the greatest coach ever! He has a career losing record against UNC. I am confused. He he he.

  4. Tarheel4Life says:

Dude, you just won a championship after how many DOWN years!! Wake-up as long as Roy is here, CHAPEL HILL will be fine! So you and the DEVILS no were you should stay!! LOL

  5. Dre says:

They won a championship in a year where all the ESPN heads said was a down year for college basketball. They were saying that in the beginning of the year. That ain’t too much for Duke fans to brag about that UNC lost how many to graduation and the NBA so that is a dumb statement. Like my boy said, that’s like bragging about winning the most gold medals in the Special Olympics (no offense to those athletes) but I get his point.

  6. David says:

If it was such a down year, why couldn’t North Carolina make the tournament and stop Duke from winning it all? If Carolina couldn’t make the tournament in such a down year for college basketball then they were that much more terrible last year.

Duke won. Give them credit. They won 2 titles in the last 10 years and never missed the NCAAs. Carolina won 2 in the decade and missed 3. By the way, Roy is .500 against Duke and more than likely will fall below that in February. K is 34-35 against UNC and will more than likely get back to .500 in February.

  7. Jason says:

Its sad for people to say UNC is a losing program, honestly just shows how much you know about college basketball. Duke did win a NC during a down year for all of basketball not just UNC. They deserved to win it b/c they were the best team in the final four. If you want credit for duke then give credit to unc. Grow up a bit.

  8. Dee says:

Give them credit??? They need to give the NCAA?CBS all the credit for that bracket they were in. The most obvious reach for ratings anyone should have ever seen. Guess Team USA needed K to look legit, too.

  9. Brian says:

David it was a down year specifically BECAUSE teams like UNC, UConn, Memphis, etc. were down. There were simply no great teams this year and Duke didn’t have to play anybody in the tournament. The only decent team Duke played the entire tournament was WVU and they were down their star player. Despite this, Duke still only beat Baylor and freaking Butler by some blatantly poor officiating.

  10. Jeremy says:

Duke will never “not” make the tournament. Coach K puts together the softest schedules in the world, and NEVER plays a good team on the road. He scheduled mid-majors who will have good records and make for a strong rpi and sos (two most overrated measures of a team) so that he will never have to worry about not making the tournament. K is under .500 vs unc and roy has owned him since he got to there. The only time duke has a chance at winning a title is the year after unc does and all of their players leave for the NBA.

  11. Chris says:

Carolina has more titles, more wins and more head to head wins versus duke…and you call UNC a losing program? To put that in perspective for you, duke would have to sweep Carolina for the next 15 season to even tie the series.

Congrats on your title run which included no wins over top 10 teams.

  12. granthill33 says:

if it was such a down year why didnt the tarholes even make the tournament? If you fools cant make the tournament during a down yaear it speaks volumes about how sorry you all were this year. caroilna players leave early but who has more players in the nba right now Duke or Carolina? Duke has 12 Carolina has 9. Carolina has always been overrated explain how they always had the best players from the 80s to dam near 2000 but only won 2 championships in that span. you fools lost to College of Charleston remember? Butler would have smoked good ole roys boys, you tarhole fans need to pray for some point guards and big men or else it will be several down years for you losers.

    • Singler's_sunscreen says:

Duke fans talking about the NBA. Funny stuff…you guys have what two NBA rings from coattail rider Danny Ferry. Maybe JJ can ride Vince and Dwight’s coattails too. BTW, didn’t “you fools” lose to Virginia Commonwealth a couple season ago? Or did K chalk that one up to Gaudet’s loss record?

      • granthill33 says:

i know youre not talking bout wince carter leading a team to the championship, this guy twists an ankle and acts like somebody cut his leg off!!!

    • theTRUTH says:

UNC has always had a problem with losing players early to graduation. If players Like Antawn Jamison, Vince Carter, Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stakhouse, Joseph Forte, Brandon Wright, and Marvin Williams didnt leave early for the NBA then UNC would have won more championships without a doubt. Im not even going to count Sean May, Rashad McCants, Raymond Felton, Ty Lawson, and Wayne Ellington because if those players would have stayed for their senior seasons then we would have won back to back national championships. You cannot possibly tell me with a lineup of Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, Will Graves, Deon Thompson and Ed Davis that we wouldnt have won the national championship this year. We would have stuck it right to Duke because Ty Lawson would have given us a floor leader and outside presence and Ellington too would have given us another legitimate shooter which we didnt have on our team this year. Our back court would be unstoppable and we wouldnt have had to play Drew or Strickland as much and the bigs down low would have had more opportunities in the paint to score because teams wouldnt have been able to double down on them as much. Get real Duke Fans, yall have had a terrible decade of basketball by getting ousted out of the tournament before the elite 8 since what? 2001? So you won the championship this year, big deal! The talent level was horrible and every analyst was saying that. Yall had an easy bracket, dont deny it and you won. good for you. But to say the UNC program is horrible is just garbage. We have stuffed it down your throat for the last couple of years and now you finally catch us on a bad year and you act like you’re the best program of all time and have been winning national championships year after year. Stop fronting, we have been the more dominant team this decade and accept it. You cant tell me otherwise. Period.

      • granthill33 says:

answer 1 question are you really sure if all those players had stayed they really would have won a championship? unless you are some kinda psychic i doubt so. if you know anything about hoops you know the best team doesnt always win the ncaa tournament case in point 91 unlv remember? just because those guys were talented enough to leave school early doesnt mean you can automatically say they would have won a championship.

another thing read your statement if lawson and ellington would have stayed, wake up dude lawson and ellington would not have gotten that team you guys put on the floor last year over the hump, what you were gonna play the starting lineup 40 minutes? ha ha ha

are you forgetting about the redick and jason williams era where we dominated you fools we beat yall so much we considered maryland our biggest rivals, it was right around the time we won like 10 out of 13 acc championships

also dude how can you be the more dominant team this decade 2010 just started fool!!!! and last i checked we annihilated you fools twice last year.

you fools had a easy pairing in the nit and couldnt even win that!!! you bunch of underachievers started out the season predicted to be a top 5 team and look how that turned out!!!

You don’t know your facts. Actually UNC and Duke have the same number of players in the NBA at the present time. The bottom line is, that both teams are great programs. Although I will take 2 National Championships every 5 years with the sixth year being a rebuilding year. UNC will be back. I would even venture to say that they win another Naional Championship in the next 3 years.

  13. Joe Cooley High says:

I don’t think anybody — even UNC fans — is denying this was a terrible year for them. But get real, Duke people: UNC won a ‘chip in 2009 and lost a TON of talent from that squad to the NBA. Of course they weren’t going to be that good, and it got worse when it became clear their younger guys weren’t ready for so much responsibility.

But you’re talking about CAROLINA. They won the title in ’09 and ’05, whereas Duke’s last two titles were farther apart. It’s not like UNC regularly misses the tournament, and one bad year doesn’t stick them behind Duke in the all-time winners or losers category. Even Coach K knows better than that.

  14. uncnate says:

granthill33 I dont know where you got your numbers but they are wrong. UNC has more than 9 pros. Hansbrough, Lawson, Ellington, Green, B Wright, Felton, M Williams, Jawad Williams, Carter, Jamison, Wallace, Stackhouse. Thats 12, plus you may be able to add Mccants to that, not sure where he is at.

  15. granthill33 says:

my bad its tied 14 to 14

  17. Tyrone says:

Silly Dookies forgetting that K bailed on Dook during the 94-95 season where the MISSED THE TOURNAMENT AND THE NIT!

Guess they also forgot the 100 point outburst in Hansbrough Indoor Stadium. As far as Wayne and Ty not being able to carry last year’s team, there isn’t a player on Dook’s roster that could defend either of those guys.

As far as K goes, Carolina has actually INCREASED their lead in the series since he got to Durham. Great coach that K!

    • granthill33 says:

tyrone are you forgetting the matt doherty debacle? you silly fools have missed the tournament more times than duke in the last 20 years!!!
and as far as lawson and ellington go thats cool but also there is no one on carolinas roster that could guard gerald henderson either if he hadnt turned pro and hes a more explosive scorer than those 2 combined!!!
u put henderson with scheyer, singler and smith and duke would have smoked you fools easily with that flawed roster!!!
