Hopkins stock is rising

DeMatha Catholic High (Hyattsville, Md.) forward Mikael Hopkins wasn’t looking for exposure when he began the AAU season with Team Takeover, which is based in Washington, D.C.
But when you’re a vital part of a team that wins consistently, the attention only heightens.
“I already had a lot of offers,” said Hopkins, a rising senior. “I wanted to just improve all around and I feel like I’ve done that. Now even more schools are jumping in.”
Hopkins has offers from Pittsburgh, Kansas, Syracuse, Villanova, Florida State, Miami, Boston College, West Virginia, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Texas and Maryland.
“I recently got an offer from Oklahoma too,” said Hopkins. “It’s been going pretty well. I don’t have a leader or anything right now. I’m just gonna finish up the AAU season then sit down and cut my list down.”
For now, Hopkins is focused on defending his title at the Super Showcase, which starts this weekend at the Disney Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Last week at the Peach Jam tournament, in North Augusta, S.C., he helped Team Takeover knock off the St. Louis Eagles, 70-62, in the title game.
“We want to finish out the summer the same way that we did last year,” said Hopkins. “That’s our goal.”
