After rallying back from a 17-point deficit, TaShawn Mabry knocked down two free throws with just four seconds left in regulation to help the East escape with a 99-98 win over the West in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game at the Greensboro Coliseum.

“It was a lot of fun getting the chance to play in front of the home crowd again,” said Mabry, who this season led Rocky Mount High (N.C.) to its first state title in 28 years. “To win like that was exciting.”

Mabry, now a freshman forward at Rhode Island who is ranked No. 45 in the HSH national top 50, finished the game with 17 points.

North Carolina freshman Reggie Bullock, of Kinston High (N.C.), caught fire in the second half and finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and three steals. That was good enough to earn Bullock, a shooting guard who is ranked No. 9, MVP honors.
