Davis headed to Kentucky

Words.

Anthony Davis

Perspectives Charter High (Chicago) forward Anthony Davis has ended his controversial recruitment, picking Kentucky over Syracuse, Ohio State and DePaul.

Just over a week ago, Davis and his father Anthony Davis Sr. were at the center of the controversy when the Chicago Sun-Times published a story on its high school sports website claiming that Davis had agreed to go to Lexington for $200,000. That story was eventually removed.

But a follow-up story claimed “sources from three separate universities told the Sun-Times that Davis Sr. asked for money in return for his son’s commitment, with the amounts ranging from $125,000 to $150,000.”

The Kentucky athletic department and Davis Sr. denied the allegation.

“Coach (John) Calipari is easy to talk to and he listens to what you are saying,” Davis told ESPN. “He will be a father figure to me away from home. He’s a demanding coach that will not tell me what I want to hear, but what I need to hear to improve.”

Versatility won’t be at the top of that list. Just a year ago, Davis was a 6-2 guard. He grew six inches over the past year.

“He’s still growing,” Davis Sr. told ESPNChicago. “We don’t know where the height is coming from. It’s freakish. He just skyrocketed over everybody.”

Davis is the third gem for Kentucky’s 2011 class; joining Pike High (Indianapolis) point guard Marquis Teague and St. Patrick (Elizabeth, N.J.) small forward Michael Gilchrist.
