Xavier had a productive week, securing commitments from two of the country’s top players at their respective positions. Lawrence North (Indianapolis, Ind.) center Mike Chandler, a senior, and North Central (Indianapolis) combo guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, a junior, both committed to the Musketeers.
“I just really felt like this would be the best place for me get better as a person and a player,” Chandler told the Indianapolis Star. “It helps that it’s close to home.”
Chandler, who averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds per game, chose the Musketeers over Providence, Connecticut and Indiana. Smith-Rivera put up 18 points per game as a sophomore and led North Central to a state title. He picked Xavier over Georgetown, Wake Forest, Ohio State and Miami.
