Alex Murphy picks Duke

St. Mark’s (Southborough, MA) small forward Alex Murphy ended his recruitment Monday, picking Duke over Florida, North Carolina, Boston College, Arizona, Kansas and West Virginia.
“Ultimately, it came down to my relationship with Coach K,” Murphy told USA
Today. “I went down last year and visited earlier this year and just felt at home. I felt comfortable with the players and coaches – and felt like there’s no better place. It was clear to me.”
Murphy, ranked No. 30 in the HSH National Top 50, is Duke’s first commitment from the 2012 class.
this made my day! For Alex Murphy to want to play for championship leader Coach K, it takes guts and a mindset of improving daily and a wiliingness to learn.
It would be amazing to see Alex Murphy playing with a team like Quinn Cook, Michael Gbinije, Josh Hairston, Tyler Thornton, and Shabazz Muhammad. I know that Bazz and Alex have thought about playing NCAA college ball together.
I doubt that Austin Rivers and Kyrie Irving will still be at Duke by 2012 because they’re highly ranked for potential NBA drafts already.
If Andre Dawkins and/or Seth Curry have not been drafted by then they could provide great leadership and development for both Muhammad and Murphy.
Either way.. good decision for Alex Murphy and his family.
I had a feeling this was going to happen. Shabazz Muhammad and Alex Murphy have been talking about possibly playing on the same team.
However, Shabazz also looked at playing with Rodney Purvis or Julius Randle someday.
Murphy could develop his game at Duke like Mike Dunleavy Jr. and/or Kyle Singler.
I read somewhere that basketball wasn’t even Singlers’ top sport.
Murphy could have more upside potential like Austin Rivers, Nolan Smith, and Seth Curry
cuz they come from basketball families.
