Just because Syracuse is arguably the best team in all of college basketball right now doesn’t mean that Jim Boeheim and his staff are just sitting back and enjoying the ride. There is no time better than right now to strike with recruits, and the ‘Cuse made a move over the weekend.

At the recent HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Mass., prized Tilton School (N.H.) 6-10 shot-blocking monster Nerlens Noel told media members that he’s going to remain in the Class of 2013 instead of reclassifying to enroll in college after the season.

As expected, Bullitt High School (Mt. Washington, Ky.) superstar Derek Willis officially committed to Kentucky yesterday afternoon. In a press conference held in his high school library in front of a contingent of media and UK supporters, he made his announcement – to a round of cheers.

For a college coaching staff that has been putting in serious time (many times years of pursuit) on a local recruit, pretty much the absolute worst news that they can ever receive is that Duke is suddenly interested in that same player. Coach K and Co. are among the handful of programs that can usually afford to sit back while other school spend time and resources recruiting players and then swoop in to take who they want down the stretch. And that may be the case with Philly star forward Amile Jefferson (Friends Central).
Alex Schwartz of NBE is reporting that Duke is now in hot pursuit of one of 2012′s top unsigned players. MORE >

High school players announce their college commitments almost every day and usually, unless it is one of the nation’s elite, blue-chip prospects, those announcements aren’t big news. Baltimore’s Aquille Carr may not be ranked as the country’s top high school prospect, but his announcement on Friday that he committed to Seton Hall certainly qualifies as a big deal. While we are fans of all ballplayers, few mean as much to Dime as the “Crime Stopper.”
