The 6-4 scoring machine from Word of God Academy (Raleigh, N.C.) hoped to stay close to home to care for his sick mother. Florida State and Kentucky were also among the top schools considered. Cherryville (NC) senior Terry Whisnant went off for 45 points on 16-of-25 shooting from the field and 9-of-17 from three-point range in a comeback win over Lincolnton on Wednesday. It was the fourth time in the last five games in which the 6-3 shooting guard finished with 40-plus points, and one point shy of Whisnant’s career-high of 46 points, which he scored against Highland Tech recently. Lake Clifton-Eastern High (Md.) star Josh Selby is at the center of one of the most complicated and intense recruiting battles that’s been waged in quite some time.

First, he committed to Tennessee last September only to back out of the commitment 10 months later because “I committed too early,” and currently Kansas, Connecticut, Baylor, Oregon, Syracuse, Florida State, Miami, Texas and Kentucky are putting on the full-court press trying to make the Vols’ loss their gain.
