Something funny happened in last night’s Mater Dei/Bishop Gorman national-power tilt at the City of Palms Tournament – not only did Shabazz Muhammad get dunked on, but he was also blown a kiss by the player who put it on him.

Muhammad (No. 3 on our Top 50 List) got caught in transition … and then he got caught by future Colorado Buffalo Xavier Johnson. Johnson dunked on him, then looked right at him and blew him a kiss. MORE >

Last night’s nationally-televised consolation game at the City of Palms Classic was billed as yet another individual showcase for the nation’s No. 1 player, Winter Park (FL) guard Austin Rivers. But nobody told Mater Dei (CA) and specifically Xavier Johnson that they were supposed to be mere backdrop. Johnson, a junior wing, finished with 26 points and 12 boards in a convincing Mater Dei win, and Johnson put Rivers on the wrong end of a highlight.

After trailing by eight at the half, St. Patrick (Elizabeth, N.J.) pulled to within two points with just one second left in regulation. And the reason for the comeback, point guard Kyrie Irving, was at the line.

Irving sunk the first free throw, but the Duke signee missed the second and the No. 1 team in the country fell to 3rd-ranked Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., on the Martin Luther King holiday. MORE >
