If Duke is close to shaking up the high school recruiting world, then UCLA is right there with them. This weekend, the Bruins are hosting three of the top players in the Class of 2010 with a loaded pool of talent hitting their campus: Josh Smith (Kentwood High School in Washington), Ray McCallum (Detroit Country Day in Michigan) and Trey Zeigler (Mt. Pleasant High School in Michigan). MORE >

Story from Dime Magazine #50
Every top college basketball program wants Ray McCallum Jr. to be their point guard of the future. Now Ray has to decide what comes first – hoop dreams or family.
Ray McCallum Jr. knows that, coming from a likely lock for the 2010 McDonald’s All-American game, this will come across as disingenuous and rehearsed and, for lack of a better phrase, a bunch of hogwash.
He can sense the immediate eye roll reaction when he says that he’s, “REALLY looking at staying home and playing for Detroit Mercy.”

He can do a 360-dunk with the same minimal effort he uses to drain a 3-pointer from a foot behind the NBA line. He’s the leading scorer on one of the most storied AAU programs on the circuit – Boo Williams Summer League – and he’s the No. 4 rated shooting guard in the class of 2010.
Still, as skilled as Dawkins, a 6-5 guard, is on the court it’s his ability to persuade that may trump everything else…

HighSchoolHoop: How have the practices been going for the tournament?
Ray McCullam Jr.: They’ve been really good. Really competitive. We’ve got some of the top players in the country going to play against some of the top players in the world. I think all of us have a pride about us and we don’t want to have a bad showing so we’re all really focused on winning.

What do Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and Tony Parker have in common? Other than all being NBA superstars, these three – along with almost 60 others – have played in the legendary World Basketball Tournament in Douai, France.
Now in its 23rd year, the World Basketball Tournament features the best under-19 talent in the world with the top national teams from Australia, Canada, France, Lithuania, Puerto Rico and the United States (represented by the 2K Sports Preseason All-American Team). With five days of competition, the tournament will prepare each squad for the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship later this summer. MORE >
