Nike EYBL Session #1 Recap: Boo Williams Sportsplex

Now that the high school season is over, it’s time to turn your attention to AAU ball. And with the second annual Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) launching on April 8th at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Va., 40 elite travel teams featuring the nation’s top stars began their march toward this year’s coveted EYBL title. These select 17-and-under teams span all corners of the continent – including 27 states and Canada – and will compete against each other during three regular season sessions across the country, culminating with the top 24 teams qualifying for the EYBL Finals at the Nike Peach Jam (North Augusta, S.C.) this July. Purdue signee Lawson out for the season

Oak Ridge (NC) Military Academy senior forward Jacob Lawson is out for the rest of the season after tearing his Achilles tendon last week against De La Salle in the semifinals of the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions in Springfield, Missouri.

Lawson, a senior Purdue signee, underwent surgery last week and is expected to make a full recovery in five months. MORE >

Upper Room Christian Academy (Raleigh, NC) combo guard Rodney Purvis called it the most important day of his life. Second Baptist School (Houston, TX) point guard L.J. Rose called him the greatest leader this country has ever seen. Everyone we spoke to agreed that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s impact is still relevant and respected nearly 43 years after his assassination.

HSH Top 50: Austin Rivers still No. 1, Quincy Miller drops out

When the No. 2 high school basketball player in the country suddenly falls out of the Top 50 in the middle of his senior season, clearly something has gone wrong. In the case of Quincy Miller (Westchester, NC), it was a torn ACL in his left knee suffered on Dec. 10. The injury ended what would have certainly been an All-American campaign and potentially a national Player of the Year run before it really began.

Miller’s season-ending injury dropped him out of the new High School Hoop National Top 50 Ranking, updated following the 2010-11 holiday tournament stretch of the schedule, where a lot of players were tested against national competition in high-profile matchups. MORE >
