A quick look at what’s going on the world of high school hoop…
- Despite losing 6-10 PF Terrence Jennings to Louisville a week ago, the Maryland snared 6-10 PF Augustus Gilchrist (Progressive Christian; Temple Hills, MD) after he de-committed from Virginia Tech last year.
- 6-6 G/F Patrick Jackson (Boys & Girls High School; Brooklyn, NY) confirmed the rumors yesterday – He’ll play both the two and the three for

A quick look at what’s going on in the world of high school hoop…
- Elliott Williams (St. George’s; Memphis, TN) has received the blessing of his parents to attend any of the four schools still on his radar: Duke, Tennessee, Memphis and Virginia. The 6-4 lefty will presumably tell them before he tells us on November 3rd.
- People are going berserk in Eugene over landing of 6-8 F Josh Crittle (Hales Franciscan; Chicago, IL). No seriously, they are. There’s a reason to be excited if you quack – Crittle and Ducks’ commit 6-9 F Michael Dunigan (Farragut; Chicago, IL) will be a sick frontcourt.

The ‘Reke Watch is on every day…
- ‘Reke Watch! Zag’s Blog says Tyreke really liked Louisville and was impressed with their signings of 6-10 PF/C Terrence Jennings (Notre Dame Prep; Fitchburg, MA) and 6-8 PF Samardo Samuels (St. Benedict’s; Newark, NJ). If he settles on Louisville, ‘Reke won’t need to worry about another guard taking his touches.
- Indiana high school hoops celebrity 6-11 F/C Tyler Zeller (Washington; Washington, IN) will make a visit to Purdue before he decides on one of his four options: Indiana, Purdue, North Carolina and Notre Dame.
- An interview with Marquette recruit 6-7 ’08 SF Jared Swopshire (IMG Academy; Bradenton, FL) about his visit and where he thinks he’s going. He’ll make one last stop at Louisville before making the final call.
- 6-4 G Iman Shumpert (Oak Park River Forest; Oak Park, IL) announced today that … he will announce tomorrow. Georgia Tech, Marquette and UNC are in the running for his services.

Our daily look at some of the news around high school basketball…
Lance a Pirate?
Total craziness out of Lance Stephenson‘s camp: His pops, Lance Sr., came away from their visit to Seton Hall over the weekend so impressed with head coach Bobby Gonzalez that Sr. said the Hall is “definitely a place Lance is considering.”
Thomas loves KU
Kansas is a likely frontrunner in the recruitment of 6-7, 225-pound PF Quintrell Thomas (St. Patrick’s HS, Elizabeth, N.J.). Thomas told Gary Bedore of the KUSports.com that he “loved” the school during this past weekend’s official visit. Thomas kept up with the Jayhawk squad during a pickup run.
IU recruit arrested
Kelvin Sampson and IU were dealt a blow over the weekend with arrest of recruit Bud Mackey. Mackey, a 6-4 senior guard from Kentucky, was arrested Friday on charges of selling cocaine, and doing so within 1,000 yards of a school.
Mizzou gets wing help
This weekend, Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) wing Kim English chose Missouri over Tennesee, Cincinnati, URI and St. Bonaventure. English teams up with PG recruit Miguel Paul for a killer ’08 backcourt.

While 6-6 Peekskill, N.Y., stud SF Mookie Jones plans to pay an official visit to Marquette this weekend, the MU bloggers might be getting slightly ahead of themselves. They’ve already deemed him “Mookie Magic? on the heels of a sweet buzzer-beater 3-pointer video posted on their site. If he goes to St. John’s, Rutgers, Syracuse or DePaul, what will they call him then?
Class of ’09 big man Bobby Capobianco (Loveland High School, Ohio) will join Mookie Jones at Marquette this weekend before he ventures to Iowa, Southern Illinois and West Virginia in October.
The Cameron Crazies can celebrate the commitment from 6-8 forward Olek Czyz. The Nevada native could give the Blue Devils another athletic talent in the paint – Olek rocks a 40-inch vert. Czyz chose Coach K over Coach Pitino and Louisville.

Our daily look at some of the news around high school basketball…
* Adam Zagoria’s blog says that the best ballplayer on Seton Hall’s campus this weekend won’t be anyone in a Pirate uniform, as Lance Stephenson plans to make an unofficial visit to the school this Saturday. The Hall and St. John’s are two of the eight remaining destinations for Stephenson. Louisville, Memphis, North Carolina, Indiana, West Virginia and Georgetown comprise the rest of the list.
Another takeaway from Adam’s blog entry: Lance, Dexter Strickland and Kevin Jones are all scheduled to be in Bloomington for IU’s Midnight Madness on October 12th.
* St. Mark’s (Mass.) 6-9 junior Erik Murphy will work out for a slew of elite coaches this Sunday. Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Billy Donovan, Dave Leitao, John Beilein, Paul Hewitt, Tom Crean, Jim Calhoun and Al Skinner may all be in attendance.
* We found this article from a little while ago by Jeff Rabjohns of the Indianapolis Star that looks at what Washington HS (Indiana) star seven-footer Tyler Zeller eats (everything), wears (size 19’s) and thinks (um…basketball).
