High school players announce their college commitments almost every day and usually, unless it is one of the nation’s elite, blue-chip prospects, those announcements aren’t big news. Baltimore’s Aquille Carr may not be ranked as the country’s top high school prospect, but his announcement on Friday that he committed to Seton Hall certainly qualifies as a big deal. Kyrie Irving set to announce

St. Patrick High (Elizabeth, N.J.) point guard Kyrie Irving will announce his college decision live on ESPNU tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. EST.

We’ve maintained for quite some time now that Irving would pick Duke over Kentucky, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech and Seton Hall.

Kyrie Irving: “I’m leaning toward Duke”

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that St. Patrick’s High (N.J.) point guard (and Bounce Magazine cover guy) Kyrie Irving told us last night that he was “leaning toward Duke.”

Remember we reported a while ago that Irving, who is rated the No. 6 prospect in the High School Hoop Top-50, would commit to Duke either during his official visit to Durham, which happened this past weekend, or shortly thereafter. It appears he’s going with the latter.

We caught up with Irving last night and asked him the tough, straightforward questions about his big visit, which included a matchup against former Duke great Jason Williams. MORE >

Tony Wroten Tears ACL Playing Football; Still Eyes Syracuse

Garfield High (Wash.) will be short one big piece to their basketball team’s puzzle with star guard Tony Wroten Jr., the No. 8 rated prospect in the HighSchoolHoop top 50, sidelined with a torn ACL.

“I’m gonna have surgery next week,” said Wroten, who was injured while playing in Garfield’s season opening football game, where he doubled as a receiver and a safety. MORE >
