HSH 1-on-1: Findlay Prep’s Myck Kabongo

Myck Kabongo

Words.

Austin Rivers, Anthony Davis and Michael Gilchrist have received the most attention amongst the Class of 2011 high school prospects, but you’d be crazy to overlook Myck Kabongo. The 6-2 point guard headed to Texas has a handle that can break down just about any defender, an innate ability to hit the open man and a lethal jumper with deep range that will cause issues for Big 12 opponents next year. We got up with the Toronto product this past weekend at the Jordan Brand Classic in Charlotte to discuss his off-court interests, his high school career – that included stops at two of the country’s premier programs – and his goals for next year. 2012 center Cameron Ridley picks Texas

Cameron Ridley

Words.

Fort Bend Bush (TX) center Cameron Ridley, a highly-touted prospect in the Class of 2012, has verbally committed to the Texas Longhorns. The 6-10, 240-pounder, a native Texan, chose to stay in-state over offers from North Carolina, Georgetown and Ohio State.

A relative latecomer to the game of basketball, Ridley didn’t start playing competitively until two years ago, so his potential is high. He said the primary factor in choosing Texas was the relationship he’s built with the Longhorns’ coaching staff, particularly assistant Rodney Terry. MORE >

HSH 1-on-1: Rasheed Sulaimon can’t be stopped

Rasheed Sulaimon

Words.

Strake Jesuit College Prep (Houston, TX) combo guard Rasheed Sulaimon knew that after following up a stellar sophomore season with an even more stellar AAU summer, he’d have to adjust to being the primary focus of opposing team’s defensive strategies.

“It’s still been really tough,” said Sulaimon. “I’m three games in and I’ve seen pretty much everything that you can see defensively. I feel like I’m learning new ways to adjust every game and it’s been fun. The season’s young and I feel like I’m ready to have another big year.” MORE >

McClellan scores 56 to honor fallen teammate

Sheldon McClellan

Words.

Coming into the season, Bellaire (TX) shooting guard Sheldon McClellan didn’t think simply wearing a rubber band that read “R.I.P. #35” was enough for him to properly honor his former teammate, Tobi Oyedeji, who died in a car crash in May. Oyedeji would’ve been a freshman at Texas A&M this year.

“This was the first time I played a varsity game without him,” said McClellan after Bellaire’s season opener. “I definitely wanted to do something to honor his memory.” MORE >

L.J. Rose Diary: The Intro

Fresh off surgery to repair a fracture in his fifth metatarsal, Rose has agreed to give HSH exclusive access by chronicling his thoughts in a regular diary. In this entry he discusses everything from the contact period to his upcoming visit to North Carolina for “Late Night with Roy.” MORE >
