North Edgecombe (Tarboro, N.C.) forward Montrezl Harrell was the first player to start the recent flurry of backboard shattering dunks this season, and now he’s Virginia Tech’s first recruit for the 2012 class.

Despite only visiting the campus once, the 6-7, 230-pound junior (with a 7-4 wingspan) picked the Hokies over offers from Wake Forest, Clemson, South Carolina, Xavier, Miami and East Carolina. MORE >

When the Hoop Group Top 100 Showcase came to Boston last year, Akosa Maduegbunam was just being discovered. The 6-3 guard/forward had the physical tools to become a good player, and after blowing up that summer, Maduegbunam became known as one of the top players in Massachusetts.

When his shot is falling, Maduegbunam (Charlestown H.S.) cannot be contained. Boston University, New Hampshire, Harvard, Virginia Tech, Drexel, Siena and Northeastern have already shown interest. Check out the damage he did in a recent game at BU during this year’s Hoop Group Top 100:

We’ve been telling you about Forsyth Country Day (Lewisville, N.C.) point guard Tyler Lewis for quite some time now, and it looks like he’s well on his way to becoming a household name.

In the last month, Lewis, a sophomore, has picked up offers from Wake Forest, N.C. State, Miami and Baylor. He already had offers from Virginia Tech, Auburn, Charlotte, Appalachian State, Virginia Commonwealth, Richmond and High Point. North Carolina is also keeping a close eye on Lewis. MORE >

Rocky Mount High (N.C.) star TaShawn Mabry will head to South Beach for an official visit to Miami on Sept. 17-18, Mabry’s father Michael confirmed today.
