Sophomore star shows up All-American senior

In a playoff showdown between two Chicago powerhouses, host Simeon defeated Morgan Park in a matchup that went down to the wire. Simeon’s star sophomore Jabari Parker came up huge down the stretch, grabbing a big rebound, completing a timely assist and nailing crucial free throws that sealed the 52-45 victory in the second round of the Public League playoffs.

Parker was also instrumental in holding Morgan Park senior star Wayne Blackshear, who is signed to Louisville and was recently named a McDonald’s All-American, to just two points in the second half. MORE >

McDonald’s All-American Rosters Announced

Rosters for the 2011 McDonald’s All-American game were unveiled today, and while most of the names on the list were to be expected, there were a few that got snubbed.

Oakland High School (CA) guard Jabari Brown, Findlay Prep (Henderson, NV) wing Nick Johnson and Garfield (Seattle, WA) guard Tony Wroten Jr. were the three most visible omissions from the team. MORE >

It was a big weekend in high school basketball — beginning with a head-to-head national TV contest between the No. 1 and No. 2 players in the country, and continuing through the Springfield (Mass.) Hoophall Classic, where many of the best players, teams and coaches in the nation have convened in one of the season’s premier showcases.

NO. 1 OAK HILL GOES DOWN The last time we saw Milton (GA) in action, they lost a heartbreaker to St. Patrick (NJ) in the City of Palms tournament title game on a buzzer-beating three. This time, Milton’s speed and execution didn’t leave room for a surprise dagger, as they knocked off undefeated Oak Hill, the nation’s No. 1 team according to ESPN and USA Today. MORE >

Ryan Boatright Scores School-Record 63 Points

Over the weekend, Ryan Boatright put himself in the record books for East Aurora (IL) High School, setting the school’s single-game record with an astonishing 63 points in their matchup with previously unbeaten Proviso West.

The UConn-bound point guard surpassed the previous mark of 55 points — which he’d set himself in the first week of the season against St. Charles North.

“I’m glad I didn’t set the record at St. Charles,” Boatright admitted to the Chicago Tribune. “I wanted to do it at home in front of our fans. When I had 35 at the half, I knew I had a chance if I kept playing hard.” MORE >
