Montverde (Fla.) Academy probably should have been following Winter Park (Fla.) combo guard Austin Rivers on Twitter. Perhaps they would have been better prepared for what Rivers had in store for them in his season opener.
@AustinRivers25: Gameday!!!!! Today is my actual first game of my last high school season! I’m going off!”
Rivers backed that up with 46 points in a 102-92 win over the Eagles. In the process, Rivers, a Duke commit who is the top ranked player in the HSH National Top 50, eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for his career. Check out the video highlights of Rivers’ big night after the jump: MORE >

It was only a surprise in the timing, not the end-result. From the moment Winter Park (FL) star guard Austin Rivers began allowing Duke to recruit him while he was still technically verbally committed to Florida, many felt it was inevitable that the No. 1 high school player in the country would wind up playing for Coach K and the Blue Devils.
In his most recent High School Hoop exclusive diary, Rivers had officially dropped Florida from his list. His new top three was set: Duke, North Carolina and Kansas, who had all just been in for in-home visits. MORE >

Few matchups between hyped-up high schools stars actually live up to the excitement that it builds, but when Winter Park (Fla.) combo guard Austin Rivers tangled with Pine Crest (Fla.) point guard Brandon Knight this past Friday on ESPN2, the performances trumped the hype.
In the end, Rivers had the better supporting cast as Winter Park outlasted Pine Crest, 87-76, at Florida Atlantic University. Knight, ranked No. 2 in the HSH national top 50, pumped in 48 points in the loss, while Rivers, ranked No. 5, dropped 42 points. MORE >
