Baltimore’s Finest Brings Toughness to the 2K Sports Squad

When 2K Sports unveiled the names of the players picked to represent the USA in the World Basketball Tournament in Douai, France this week, the obvious consensus was that the team was loaded with talent.

But even with the most talented of combinations, every team needs someone who will provide the toughness.
Every good team needs the guy who’s gonna come away with all of the 50-50 balls, the guy who dives on the floor, the guy who has the cocky swagger, the guy who locks up defensively and gets in the faces of slacking teammates.
For this team that player is Lake Clifton-Eastern High point guard Josh Selby, who is rated the No. 11 prospect in the HighSchoolHoop top 50.

Selby, a Tennessee commit, grew up on the streets of Baltimore and plays with a chip on his shoulder the size of the ball he bounces. He’s a fearless leader who never backs down from a challenge.

For example, take the Nike Memorial Classic in late May:

Selby, a 6-2 rising senior, was matched up against Harrison Barnes, HighSchoolHoop’s No. 1 prospect, who is also well known for his intense play. Though he gave up four inches to Barnes, Selby took it to him on nearly every play and ended up with 25 points.

Still, for Selby, this trip overseas won’t just be about leading the team and playing with intensity.
“I’m really looking forward to playing with Jordan McRae,” Selby said. “We’re both headed to Tennessee, and I just want to build some chemistry with him on and off the court. I think this will be a good trip to do just that.”
