The rivalry between these two southern states does not stop at the gridiron. With both states producing big time ball players just as fast as they are running backs, the rivalry has now reached the hardwood. This clash is one of the better match ups in the Border Wars series, enjoy:

Florida

PG: Brandon Knight 6-3 170 Jr. Pine Crest HS

SG: Kenny Boynton 6-1 175 Sr. American Heritage HS

SF: Terrance Boyd 6-4 185 Sr. Arlington Sr. Country Day HS

PF: Rakeem Buckles 6-8 200 Sr. Monsignor Pace HS (Louisville)

C: Wally Judge PF 6-8 220 Sr. Arlington Country Day HS (Kansas St.)

Bench: Ray Taylor 5-8 PG Jr. American Heritage HS, Dexter Fields 6-2 G Sr. Olympia HS, Stanley Poole Jr. 6-5 G/F Raines HS, Keith Clanton 6-8 Sr. Orlando Regional Christian HS

Georgia

PG: Mfon Udofia 6-1 180 Sr. Miller Grove HS

SG: Lorenzo Brown 6-4 175 Sr. Centennial HS

SF: Noel Johnson 6-6 185 Sr. Fayette County HS

PF: Kenny Hall 6-9 215 Sr. Redan HS (Tennessee)

C: Derrick Favors 6-9 220 Sr. South Atlanta HS

Bench: Ari Stewart 6-7 SF Sr. Wheeler HS, Kammeon Holsey 6-8 PF Sr. Hancock Central HS, Richard Howell 6-7 PF Sr. Wheeler HS, Shawn Kemp 6-9 215 C Sr. Cherokee HS, Glen Rice 6-4 SG Sr. Walton HS

Guards: If this backcourt match up ever happened the highschoolhoop staff would have to be court side. Udofia is a tough strong guard that would give the slender Knight a bit of a problem. But Knight is skilled enough on the offensive end to give Udofia problems of his own. The key battle would be between the high scoring Boynton and ultra athletic Brown. Both are great athletes, but Brown gets the nod as he plays above the rim. Boynton is the better shooter and can just score in bunches. This match up goes to Florida due to Boynton’s scoring prowess.

Forwards: The match up between the Georgia and Florida forwards would also be a tight one. Georgia holds a slight height advantage with Johnson and Hall, but Florida’s forwards are very athletic and can get out and run as well as handle rock. Johnson is an excellent shooter and Hall’s size and would be too much for the Florida forwards. This match up goes to the Peach State, Georgia.

Center: This would be more of a massacre than a match up. Favors is the elite big man in the high school ranks right now. His offense could use some polishing up, but his defense is NBA ready and he just outworks his opponent. While Judge is a very good player in his own right, he just doesn’t have the size and strength to match up with Favors at this point in his career.

Bench: Georgia also gets the nod in the bench department. They have too much quality size for the boys from Florida, and they have that pro pedigree in Shawn Kemp Jr. and Glen Rice Jr. With a player like Stewart coming off the bench, things can never be good for the opposition.

Verdict: Boynton can only score so much to keep the sunshine state in the game. While this game might be a close one, we just can’t see Florida knocking off Georgia. When solid guard play is matched with solid post play, Georgia has both, that team usually wins. Advantage Georgia.

Nice work, it’s good to see real breakdowns and analysis over hype.

When and where is this game? I may want to cover it for our paper. Thanks.

It’s not a real game, it’s a what if scenario. Would be a sick game though.

Someone needs to come up with the greenbacks to put that game together.
