Before No. 1 overall pick John Wall dougied his way into his first NBA game, he was a relatively unknown, unranked kid from Raleigh, N.C. He had no scholarship offers, no invitations to exclusive camps and no real reputation. But back in 2007, one event changed all that for Wall: the Reebok Breakout Challenge in Chicago, Ill. Wall credits the camp for giving him his start and putting him on the path to becoming SEC Player of the Year at Kentucky and the NBA’s top pick.
This summer, Reebok and Wall are relaunching the event that launched his career. The Reebok Breakout Challenge will be taking place once again, this time at Philadelphia University, from July 5-9. The event is the perfect opportunity for players in the same position as Wall – those with a swagger, a chip on their shoulder, those with something to prove.
“Reebok Breakout was the first major step on my path, and I am humbled to be able to give back to player that deserve it and truly want to earn their way,” says Wall. “I hope the event bring them as much success as it brought me.”
The Reebok Breakout Challenge is the only event of its kind for young ballplayers in the United States. Reebok has developed the unique and innovative Headliner Tryouts, which players must go through in order to earn a coveted invitation to the camp. The tryouts take place in 13 locations throughout the country, and registration is open to any high school players, free of charge. If you think you have what it takes to get to the main event, signup, and show up ready to fight for your chance to break out on the big stage. That’s how John Wall did it.
The Reebok Breakout Challenge is an NCAA Live Period Evaluation Camp. This means that the lucky 100 ballers that make it through the tryout process will have the chance to compete in front of college coaches who will be on-hand to evaluate recruits for potential scholarship offers. As an added bonus, top performers at the camp will be hand selected by Wall himself to join him for a private training retreat, the Pre-Season Prep, at the end of the summer to prepare for the upcoming season.
