The game went to overtime when Bryan Taylor made one of two free throws to tie the game at 69, nullifying a terrific fourth quarter for Girard College’s Clifford White, who scored seven points in the final period, including 4 of 4 from the foul line, and also made 2 of 2 free throws

The Lions of Brooklyn humbled the Public League’s Panthers, 57-23, behind 19 points from 6-foot-7 senior Villanova recruit Jayvaughn Pinkston, as Villanova Wildcats’ coach Jay Wright looked on. Imhotep Charter (4-1), last year’s Public League, District 12 and Class AA state champion, went into halftime down 34-17 and scored just two points in the third quarter. Panthers forward Earl Brown’s layup with one minute remaining in the quarter was all that prevented Imhotep from having a donut in its box score. “They’re a good team defensively, but I haven’t seen us play this poorly offensively in a long, long time,” said Imhotep coach Andre Noble.
MVPs of the game were Bishop Loughlin’s Jayvaughn Pinkston and Imhotep’s Dave Appdon.
