Jalen Adams (Cushing Academy, MA) Incredible Buzzer-Beater
Words. Matthew Gibson
What a finish! I had the chance to check out the New England Prep School Class AA Championship this past weekend between the St. Andrews School (RI) and Cushing Academy (MA) and what an atmosphere it was. Fans were crowd-surfing. It was that crazy.
It looked as if St. Andrew’s had this one in the bag up 11 with three minutes to go but Cushing applied full-court pressure that allowed them to cut into the lead.
After forcing a St.Andrew’s turnover, 6-0 sophomore floor general Jalen Adams (Melrose, MA) spun between two defenders and shuffled a pass to Butler signee Andrew Chrabascz (6-8/240lbs) who brought Cushing within 2 with 6.6 seconds to play.
After a missed free throw was deflected out of bounds by St. Andrew’s, the stage was set for a thrilling finish as Cushing would have one final possession with 3.3 to play.
Jalen Adams, who holds offers from UConn and Providence to name a few, pulled up from 35 feet to knock down the game winner off the glass, giving Cushing the 61-60 edge and NEPSAC Championship trophy.
